A career in real estate can be extremely rewarding, providing a lucrative income, flexible schedule, great work-life balance, and the ability to meet a diverse group of interesting people. But in order to launch your real estate business, you must first pass the Colorado real estate exam and get your license.
The first decision you’ll need to make before scheduling your exam is how you want to take it. The good news is that Colorado gives you two options for how to take the exam – you can take it in person at a PSI test center near you, or you can take the Colorado real estate exam online. The online option is particularly appealing for individuals who don’t live near one of the seven PSI test centers in the state, but it’s also an option if you live near a test center but prefer to take your exam in the comfort of your own home. You’ll be able to choose your preferred testing option (in-person or online) when you schedule your exam.
If you choose to take your Colorado real estate exam online, you’ll need to keep the following in rules mind:
If you prefer to take your Colorado real estate exam in person, you’ll have to schedule your exam at one of the seven PSI test centers located throughout the state. Your options include:
While most people choose the test center closest to where they live, you can go to whichever location you prefer.
Prior to scheduling your Colorado real estate exam, you’ll need to complete all pre-licensing education requirements. You must take 168 hours of real estate licensing education courses, consisting of the following categories:
You can either take these courses in person, or you can take online real estate classes from an accredited organization such as Colorado Real Estate School. You’ll need to provide proof of completion of these courses to fulfill the eligibility requirements for the Colorado real estate exam.
To schedule your Colorado real estate exam:
If you prefer, you can contact the PSI Candidate Care Center at 855-744-0313 to make an exam reservation. Keep in mind that in order to get your license, you’ll have to pass both the national and state portions of the real estate exam.
Regardless of whether you take the Colorado real estate exam online or in person, you’ll need to provide at least one form of ID on exam day. The name on the ID you provide must match the name you used on the exam registration form. Suitable forms of ID include a driver’s license or passport. If you don’t provide an accepted form of ID, you won’t be allowed to take the exam, and you’ll forfeit your exam fee.
Make sure to leave all personal items at home or in your car while you’re taking the exam. If you’re taking the exam online, you’ll be required to remain on camera throughout the duration of the exam – you won’t be able to leave your computer to take a break.
You can see additional exam day protocol on the PSI candidate bulletin.
