Before jumping into your new career, it’s important to evaluate whether real estate is right for you. You need to understand the advantages and drawbacks of working as a real estate agent, since the way you value these items will play a major role in whether you’ll be happy in this job. But you also need to consider the characteristics and traits that make someone successful in real estate. The more of these traits that you possess, the greater the likelihood that you’ll thrive in this competitive industry.
To know your income potential, it’s important to first understand how real estate agents make money. Real estate agents typically don’t earn a base salary. Instead, they receive a commission on each sale they broker for a client. This commission is usually a percentage of the sale price of the property.
Since your income is commission based, the more deals you close, the greater your earning potential. In addition, your commission will be greater when you help broker the sale of a higher value property than with a lower value property.
The good news is that obtaining your Colorado real estate license is not complex. One key difference between Colorado and other states is that Colorado is a single license state. This means we do not have a salesperson or broker license, as is common in many states. In Colorado, every newly licensed real estate agent is an associate broker. This is a one-size-fits-all license that enables you to conduct any real estate transaction.
